What I got for christmas...

Long before I became a 'blogger' I would read other beauty blogs and would especially love any haul or birthday/christmas treat related post. This is because I am a shopaholic and a tad nosy so here is mine. Photo heavy, here are just a few of the lovely things I have received this christmas.

Illamasqua blush Excite - A true dolly peach which is just gorgeous!

Light swatch of Excite - Illamasqua

Benefit Girl Meets Pearl over Illamasqua Excite (photo not being kind creates a beautiful subltle glow)
Benefit Girl meets pearl...a more workable version of Highbeam has more slide to it than it's predecessor but the same beautiful pink pearl highlight effect

Philosophy Warm and Toasty - Espresso , buttered rum and cocoa.....erm no I will not get out of the bath yet!

The Urban Decay New York Palette - yes it's gimmicky, yes it's larger than need be but come on it lights up! Gorgeous especially 'loaded' also get 2 24/7's and a mini PP...perfect!
Front Cover Hot rods - Imagine Urban Decay 24/7's with a smudger on the end and easier to sharpen...im in love
Cult Classic Orgasm, Pillow talk and sex machine in the 'love set'

Swatch of Front Cover Hot Rods

Molten brown yummies - My faves being Eucalyptus and Gingerly (a scent I already have in the sparkling eau de toilette. It makes you feel instantly warm and cosy)

To top all of these wonderful treats off I also received a new cream coat with black piping detail, a gorgeous chiffon pink scarf, a Suzy Smith 'grown up' lady bag, Pj's Chocolates, Bangles, CD's, Belle de Opium + Jean Paul Gaultier Madame perfume (my amy perfume as my boy calls it) and a partridge in a pear treeeeee. Thank you santa!

I also got so many fabulous books which deserve a whole new post just for them. I have literally 10 pictures of inspiration I need to recreate, my favourite being a turquoise Sophia Loren look from 1963 which oozes glamour.

Wishing you all a very very happy and prosperous new year filled with all the love and laughter you desire....2011 will be a good year I can just feel it!

Christmas wish list ramble

Firstly a huge thank you to all the Facebook lot and the lovely bloggers for lending some much needed advice regarding my troublesome skin.

The word up on that front is (according to my GP) all due to those little darlings that we call hormones so I shall not bore you with the particulars but my skin is on the mend quicker than I thought possible. So hopefully one can banish the industrial strength concealer! Result!

Secondly there has been a distinct lack of updates or 'looks' of any kind. That my little sugarplums is because I have been walking around looking like something the cat dragged in. I love love love christmas but I feel like the past 3 weeks have been nothing but hectic and i'm still not done!

3 more presents to get, 4 parcels to be delivered and about 60 cards to write. I have also decided that I am going to embark on a day of baking festive goodies and fresh cinnamon rolls for christmas morning breakfast  to create a super sugary sweet ambience for my baby boys first proper christmas morning.  So my mind has been pretty much swirling with sugar, ribbons and bows as opposed to lipstick, gloss and glitter.....not for long though!

I have the urge to do something craaaazy I have been a make up bore for weeks now sticking to my bronzer, nudes and mascara combo. Hell, Miss Jones talks bore off more like. But this saturday is my works party and I am going to cram my face with as much glitter and gloss as it will hold!

On to my wish list....

Nars Love set....I just want it no explanation needed

Illamasqua blush in excite see swatch here courtesy of flickr..just because my life would be complete if I were to have a true peach blush to tinkle on my apples of a morning

Vogue The covers book..inspiration

Chocolates...because thats what christmas is about eating sugar for 48-72 hours non stop

Novelty Pyjamas....Essential as a result of the previous want, when jeans feel like they are cutting into your intestines

The Naked and Famous Album (listen to a little here)  to bop along to as I slob in said novelty pj's whilst eating the chocolates

If I was to be lucky enough to receive these gifts I promise to be a good girl for the whole of 2011.

What is everyone else hoping to unwrap christmas morning?

Skincare SOS Calling all bloggers help needed!

Aaaaaahhhh what the hell is going on!

I have been battling with my skin for the past few months at first I put it down to stress, then to using too many new products, then to hormones, diet in fact just about everything you can think I have blamed it on.

So to try and rectify the situation I have banished all new fangled products and have gne back to basics.

By basics I mean basics, these were the products I used all through my university years (when sleep was lacking and alcohol was plentiful) yet my skin was always ok.

So im using boots sensitive foaming facial wash twice daily, Boots vitamin E moisturiser twice
daily, bio oil to remove eye make up, boots sensitive wipes to remove stubborn make up and good old TCP/Savlon or tea tree oil to treat the odd stubborn spot.

Money was tight as a student and the majority of the money I had went on clothes not on skincare hence why all of the products are cheap and boots own brand. However let it be said that these have never let me down.

As an alternative to an exfoliator I use a muslin cloth with my foaming wash when I feel my skin needs a pick me up.

I have been doing my new boring I mean basic routine for 2 weeks and my skin is getting better but still not what it was. Apparently i'm 'over reacting' according to everyone I bore with my skin 'problem' which I may well be, i'm not saying my face is covered in spots but I know it is not in it's usual state at the moment for me. I would not feel confident going sans base to the shop which is ridiculous for a grown woman to feel.

I used to be the kind of girl that could get away with using a little concealer and bronzer with no base but now I need a good coverage everyday. I think this is what is causing havoc with my my pores. Its a real catch 22.

The only other things I can think is that I did stop drinking my usual 2L of water which I used to do religiously. But surely H20 cant affect skin so much...maybe it can!

So my new plan is to drink lots and lots of water, I find having a pint pot filled with water or a large bottle always with you is the easiest way. If i'm cleaning I will have a huge glass filled with water near the sink so I keep drinking and make sure I refill at least once before my cleaning is finished.

When at the gym I will make sure I drink two 500ml bottles instead of one, I have also tried to avoid fizzy drinks which is hard because I am actually addicted..oh sweet sweet bubbles be mine.

So thats all really i'm cutting down on chocolate (HARD) increasing water, exercising more and keeping my skin free from any gorgeous smelling products (BORING)

But what I want to know is why? why now at 25 years of age is my skin acting like that of a pre pubescent girl.  Has anyone else had the same problem. I would really really appreciate any advice you have or any magic products to make my skin glow with health.

FYI - My skin type is sensitive/combination and my main breakout areas are my cheeks and forehead

One other thought I had was maybe it's linked to having my son. My skin was lovely and clear throughout pregnancy and the first few months after having him but problems started when my cycle kicked in properly. Oh I don't now i'm sick of summising, short of putting a paper bag over my head i'm at my wits end!

Christmas / Holiday Make up

Hello all,

I have been avoiding the FOTD's recently due to a bad skin flare up which I blame on the darn evil cold weather and silly old me frollicking with new skin care products.

I have taken my routine back to basics and will be doing a post soon on what has worked to clear up my sensitive/combination/breakout hell! All whilst dealing with the pressures of wrinkle prevention. Gee whizz us girls have a lot to contend with.

But I have swallowed my pride and put my insecurities on hold for the sake of sharing a very easy peasy effective look perfect for christmas parties.

I must warn this is very picture heavy so I do apologise. Also Miss Jones hasn't gone crazy yes my eyes are different to save time doing 2 different looks I have merged them into one.

To begin I used Sleek Kajal in Odyssey to prime my lids with. Using a dark primer is perfect to create a real 'pop' especially in winter months when we can up the drama a notch or 10.

I like to use purple as an alternative to black because it adds a lil something extra to any colour you layer over the top.

Ok here goes, on one eye I used Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Surge dabbed over the top with a flat brush (for review see here ).

On the other eye I used a Barry M dazzle dust which I have had for so long it has been discontinued but it looks like a hybrid of Fig and Red or possibly Burgundy Noir. This was also dabbed with a flat dense brush.

hmm looks a lil creepy but bear with me....

If I was to wear this look I wouldn't line my top lashes or wear anything dramatic on the lower lash line

Aaaarhhhh!!!!! Crazy lady!!!!

On Lips I prepped with Mac Fluidline gel liner in Black which looks absolutely disgusting because it is so matte and well so black. BUT when a glossy lipstick is applied over the top it creates a rich depth perfect for recreating this seasons deep lip trend.

*Ensure lips are not dry or chapped or the dark pigment will scream out skanky lip alert*

The lipstick I used over the top was a MUA in shade 1 (to see how it looks ridin solo click here) it is super glossy and £1!!! Coincidentally I am including one in my giveaway because it is so very lovely ENTER HERE

I have kept my skin pale using Revlon CS in Ivory and a tiny amount of Bourjois Blush in No 16. Benefit Bad Gal eye pencil was used on the waterline and Rimmel Sexy curves mascara.

Well thats all for now my little bobby dazzlers what make up will you be wearing for the party season?

Little hands = Mess

Inspired by the lovely Welsh beauty blog I chuckled after reading her sons antics with her OPI Vodka and Caviar. It took me back to not so long ago when Mr George had a little fight with a Barry M Dazzle dust...

I'll just try to sneak off..she won't notice

Busted!

Happy nearly weekend everyone : D

I'm off to London to see the Queen...

Well not quite the Queen but as good as!

Miss Jones is just a small town girl living in a village where cutting edge fashion and on trend make up is not something you will often see on your daily trip to the local shops.

Yes I live very close to Manchester, a city which I LOVE and will till my dying day. We have all the big shops you know! (As the old uns would say). But still as much as my heart belongs to my darling Mancunia, It ain't no London!

So off we trot (me and my boy) to the 'Big smoke' for a spot of Christmas shopping, good food and a couple or 12 drinks with friends. I am almost ashamed to say, but I have never been to Hamleys nor have I ever had the privilege of visiting a Mac Pro. Excited!

Last Christmas my son was 3 months old barely able to do, well anything. BUT this year he is an all singing all dancing real boy. And seeing as that festive occasion that we call Christmas is just around the corner I'm thinking where else could be better? Christmas treats for my little pudding followed by Christmas treats for mama! : D

I will also be wanting to check out the Haven that is Topshop (gulp)..5 floors?!  I get palpitations at the very thought and of course Liberty's.

All that is left to do is decide which make up to pack. I have been told I must keep luggage to a minimum......hmmm minimum. Do us beauty bloggers know that word?

Whatever I decide to take at least I have the case sorted! All thanks to my new Antler Glam Beauty Case.
This case was an absolute steal! It was a promotional product which could be purchased for £10 when you spent £10 or more on other products. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but my oh my what a wonderful case.

It is durable, has compartments to organise brushes and is bright pink! Need I say more.

2 things which I will definitely be taking are:

  • Bourjois Healthy mix foundation A welcomed change to my Revlon CS which I was beginning to dread using due to it's thick consistency and smell. This on the other hand feels fresh fruity and light. I just need to use a little extra concealer to make up for the lighter coverage but hey ho such is life
  • Boots Expert Anti Redness Serum Literally feels like a great big thirst quenching drink for your skin. I have always been put off by the word serum (oil slick anyone?) but this is just a really nice light cream which absorbs quickly. Recommend!
I really should go and make a start on deciding which blush, bronzer, lipstick, gloss, liners, primers, brushes, highlighters and lashes to take....

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend whatever you are doing. For all you actual Londoners if you happen to be out shopping and see a bewildered blonde girl laden with bags drooling over a cosmetics counter in a fur coat and red beret...say Hi its likely to be me!

How Many Colours? Front Cover Review and Rihanna Inspired Eyes

I have been meaning to do this review for some time but I felt that I wanted to use and experiment with all my mite before I gave the full word up on the product.

Firstly I should say that I am not affiliated with this brand in anyway and my opinion is 100% honest based upon what I have found from using the product.

Okay so that's the babble over with.

A lovely Lil lady over at Front Cover sent me the Front Cover to go which can only be described as a great big box of colourful delights.

Handy tips from MUA to achieve various looks. Easy to follow and a must for anyone unsure on techniques

It arrived safe and sound with no injuries to the little domes of sparkling vivid colour, my first impression was wow!

Yum yum yum yum

So what do you get?
10 Baked domed shadows
3 Twinkle domed baked shadows
5 Duos
2 pressed
1 Shadow line
1 Compact which fits 4 shadows also includes a great mirror
Double ended Applicator

I managed to use the brush to create a full look using 7 colours (pics below).

I was tempted to grab my other brushes but challenged myself to see if it was possible to use just the brush provided. Unlike most brushes which come with other palettes on the market it is actually worthy of using especially with the smaller brush ideal for detailing under the eye or working in the socket line.

The Palette is ideal for popping your favourite shades into for traveling or a night on the town I LOVE the mirror.
I know Front Cover have done a large palette before called Rainbow eyes, my sister has it and although she raved about the tips and the pigment etc we did conclude that it would be difficult to travel with purely due to the size.
The 'GO' set has sorted this dilemma with the genius little separates that can be switched ans swapped as and when your heart desires.

I am using Silver Dollar, Powder Puff, Twinkling Grape and Black Spark all of which scream Christmas to me : D

I used the set to create a look which was a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The colours are all so enticing you cant help but explore.

I lie, actually it is very loosely inspired by Rihanna (click to see after performance interview and a glimpse of the make up). She wore an amazing lime green eye on the Simon Cowell creates pop star in ridiculous amount of time show (X Factor) I guiltily watch and moan every week.

Silver Dollar base, Citronella crush lids, Tarn green/Bright Aqua socket, Bayou/Midnight Lower Lash line, Azimuth outer Corner

Please ignore my puffy skin, sallow complexion and half damp hair it was 7am pre caffeine

They apply like a dream, blend like butter and stay put all day. Fall down is minimum unlike other mass produced bright palettes they feel and apply like a good quality shadow. The intensity of the colours shown is minus primer hence you could actually up the colour pay if desired.

J'adore!

The Shadow Line is similar to the Too Faced product where you mix the clear liquid with any shadow to create a liner. You MUST remember to clean the nib before dipping back into the liquid or it will ruin for future use.

You could either mix a paste on your hand to create an intense shadow or literally dip n line as severe or subtle as you like.
Moondust above dipped and lined, Copper coin below to the right mixed to create a strong paste to the left subtly lined with
Final Thought
Fandabiozi- That's it I have no critique whatsoever if I was to be really picky possibly make the brush a little fluffier to blend but that is being really picky.

Front Cover can be purchased from Boots and is currently on their 3 for 2 offer. I would recommend this to those starting out with Make up who need to build up their kit but would also recommend to MUA's for a fun cheaper alternative to MAC especially now they are easier to travel with.

I would definitely look towards making more shadows as individual pans if Miss Jones was up there with the big wig brains in Front Cover towers and maybe selling the compacts in various sizes so a make up magpie can collect and create the ultimate palette. The colours really are beautiful.

I hope if nothing else this review has maybe swayed at least one persons opinion. Its easy to see a set in Boots already packaged unable to swatch and think it's likely to be rubbish. Think again girls and boys, this is a winner!!! : D Kudos to Front cover

Gucci Trend Contouring for Winter 2010/11

The coming months will see me trying to replicate the gorgeous strong contouring and use of scrummy caramels as seen on the catwalks at Gucci for AW 10/11.

mmmm what I wouldn't give for that leather to be hanging in my wardrobe...a girl can dream
To achieve this look (or at least attempt to try and create something similar on my oh so less than gaunt face) I shall be using Sleek Contour face kit in Light. Sleek as a brand is making major headway in becoming one of the most talked about affordable drug store brands which actually delivers colour pay off and longevity.

I know a lot of folk might think sleek isn't for them (I too used to think the brand was exclusively for darker skin tones and my milky white pallor was too pale to benefit from the scrumptious products) but the light contour kit is a great match for my skin tone. I tend to use self tanner so I'm not incredibly pale hence why the light shade works for me.
This was swatched on my inner arm (veins and all) you can see it isn't too dark even on a very pale area. The highlight swatches OK but just doesn't work on me as a highlight for some reason

The light contouring kit is ideal for me. Yes it needs blending so as not to look too stripey but I'm willing to spend that bit of extra care on blending especially when the price is so reasonable and the product lasts throughout a day in the office...or a night on the town.
The kit comes with what every self respecting contour should have...a highlight! They go hand in hand after all BUT I dislike the highlight in this palette imensely. I look like a patchy mess when I use it. I don't like how it applies or the finish to it I would much rather use Front Cover, MSF or Highbeam as a highlight.

Contouring is a key trend and works wonders for those not blesseed with model like cheeck bones. This sneaky lil method was a god send whislt I was pregnant and I had my big moon pig face (eugh).

What do you all think contouring yay or nay?

Boys just don't get it!

'Oh so you've started dressing like my dad'

This was the response I heard from my boys mouth when I lovingly tied the laces on my favourite new shoes.

Now usually my boy in particular tends to be quite tolerating of my flirting with the latest trends. He turns a blind eye to my love of hats, fur, animal and bohemian prints.

Sure I get the occasional 'Bloody hell Flash Gordon boots!', 'Haha robin hood!', 'you look like a drama teacher today' (whatever that means?) or my favourite 'are you feeling OK, your not wearing all your trinkets' (accessories to us females remember more is more!)

What's not to love about these bobby dazzlers? Comfortable, practical, stylish.....the list goes on.

Internationale £17.99 Available in Black and Tan

I can only imagine his reaction when my peg legs arrive. I know this isn't make up related but Miss Jones loves fashion too you know.

What do we think to brogue or not to brogue?

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Shimpagne Dupe

The general consensus on MSF's is either you love love love or hate hate hate. Personally I could not be without mine. I adore the longevity, the application, the versatility and the way it photographs. I almost always use it on clients especially for Bridal Make up which may seem slightly controversial to other MUA's who tend to steer clear of  such products when flash photography is on the cards. I on the other hand use this product loads and loads. I love it. simple as. Its also great to highlight shoulders, decolletage and *a-hem* cleavage. It works on nearly all skin tones so it's definitely a staple piece in my kit.

BUT MAC being MAC they discontinue products like there's no tomorrow (or rather they discontinue and re launch under a different name some months later at a price representative of the 'new limited edition' range)

Shimpagne was one of those. I have a suspicion that it will be back maybe in time for the new Holiday collection? who knows?  What I love about Shimpagne in particular is the balance of the colours. In a high frost metallic powder it's easy to look overdone. Which is why some people hate the product. If applied incorrectly or maybe in another colour *cough* (gold deposit?) Its clear to see you may risk looking like a glitter ball as opposed to a dewy glowing princess.

Shimpagne has the perfect mix of peach and gold flecks which will make cheekbones take on some dizzying heights. With the correct contour and this baby, razor like cheekbones will be upon you. Guaranteed.

So whats the dupe Miss Jones!!!???

Well here it is

To the left MAC to the right Front Cover Shimmer powder from Gold Mine set

Above MAC below Front Cover

Uncanny resemblance don't you think? Now the front cover shimmer was part of a set called Gold mine which was part of 2009 collection. They are available at Boots and are on 3 for 2. Coincidentally I am in the process of putting together my giveaway (finally) which contains a Front Cover eye palette. I am so in love with this range but I will gush about the eye palette in the giveaway post coming very soon.

I'm not sure if they will bring out the Gold Mine this year but I'm sure something similar will be on the cards. Even the front cover shadows or loose powders would make amazing highlights. If anyone has this lurking in their drawer thinking it is cheap rubbish not worth playing with, all I can say is don't let the packaging fool you. This is one hell of a dupe!

Coming soon Giveaway including Front Cover Palette, MUA Lipstick, False Lashes, ELF Gloss (the yummy one not the vile tasting toxic one) and ASOS by Ciate Nail Paint in Alexa. All a must for Winter 10/11.

Anyone else love Front Cover?

Illamasqua Liquid Metal and Pure Pigment Review

The dark nights are closing in, the winter chill is in the air so what does ones mind wander to? Planning my make up for the festive period of course. Previous you may think but nay nay in a beauty bloggers mind this is quite acceptable and even rational (especially considering secretly I have been gazing into the future imagining what delights I shall be going all gooey over in prep for SS11)

Imagine the scene, Friday night at Selfridges caught between MAC and Illamasqua with a DJ pumping out Candi Staton, Michael Jackson and En Vogue. Women swatching left right and centre, excited chatter in the air, credit cards beep beeping and heels click clicking.

Heaven.

I felt shivers like no other and excitement bordering on that of an adrenalin junkie pre bungee jump.

After much debate and anguish I finally selected Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Surge and Pure Pigment in Ore.

To the left Surge, to the right Ore. Above with flash below without.

As you can see....be-au-ti-ful!

Surge is a cream shadow which packs a punch even with slight creasing the pigment stays true, colour is a beautiful platinum. It could be glammed up with lashes and a strong lip for serious wow factor or played down with some smudgy kohl, natural skin and nude lips for an edgy modern rock/grunge look. To minimise creasing if your not a fan of that look dust with a little loose powder (I like to use ELF HD) as it doesn't interfere with the colour pay off.

Now over to Ore, It has been a long time since I have seen a pigment which has resulted in the same reaction that Ore gave. The pictures do not do it justice, it really is super duper. I have green eyes so this screamed out to me above the other yummy colours as I know this will compliment my peepers the most. It is scrumptious and again the options are endless. Used alone would be stunning, apply over surge for a molten smoulder or mix with body lotion for a sexy bronze shim shimmy.

Illamasqua as a brand is very much for those more daring. It is geared towards ladies who are not make up shy. All products in their range are stunning in their own right even if blue lips are not for you.

Longevity of these are also second to none, for a pigment and cream shadow (both known for their lack of staying power) they lasted all night long.....(i woke up at 9.30am looking like something out of the rocky horror show but hey ho but at least we know we can rely on them for lasting).

I will be pushing these products over the coming weeks for any make up jobs I do because I am in the honeymoon stage of our relationship and love them to bits!

Anyone else have glowing reviews for any Illamasqua products?

A/W Trend Dolce and Gabbana Lips for £1

Red lips are it. Fact. Thee only lip trend for Autumn Winter 2010/11. Red lips have been prominent on the catwalks ranging from cherry stained at Dolce and Gabbana to darkest berry tones at Dior.

The 90's have a strong influence on this seasons fashion and of course make up.  I remember the original trend but I was more interested in playing Tetris on my Gameboy back in the day albeit in my floral leggings and biker boot combo (90's kids rule!). My sister however was right there in the thick of it, teenage angst, translucent skin, coffee shimmer lips, smudged kohl eyes, roots, Doc Martins and Nirvana in her Walkman. The retake on 90's grunge chic is a little more polished and feminine than it's predecessor. Skin is matte, brows are thicker but neat, skin is contoured and eyes are heavily shadowed with taupe, nudes and greys.

Dolce and Gabbana 2010/11 (courtesy of Vogue.co.uk)

Oh Shannon you did it so well..

So here it is as promised the £1 lipstick that is versatile enough to see you through this trend.

MUA you continue to please me. Superdrug I salute you for stocking such an affordable fabulous brand. All for £1!!! seriously that is less than a soft drink.

Tada! Shade 1 in all it's glory. This is the exact finish of the lipstick, I wanted to blot to make it more in keeping with the trend but I just had to showcase the lovely sheen. This is with no gloss on top I repeat no gloss!
Ease of application rivals a MAC Glaze, pigment is up there with the best, odour/taste = non offensive.
All in all it is phenomenal, I would be pleased had I paid £5 but £1 is just ridiculous. I am going to have to restrain myself from buying the whole darn range. I have been previously wowed by MUA (see review here) so I definitely recommend even the make up snobs amongst you to try this brand out.

When it comes to formulations the finish is no biggie as long as frost isn't involved (gip) simply blot, reapply, blot powder for a matte finish. To make the look more vamp and Dior-Esque, smudge a black gel liner or kohl on the lips prior to applying the lipstick.
Excuse the rather rushed application I was all over eager : )

This will look stunning with pale skin, winged eyes and what the hell throw a beret in for true Parisian Chic style.
